Harcourt break three-game losing streak in style
After a horrid three-game losing streak, Harcourt is back on the winner’s list following a hard-fought 28-point victory against Dunolly at Deledio Reserve.
Keen to impose dominance following a tough run of results, the Lions roared into action on Saturday, kicking five goals in the first quarter spearheaded by Jed Rodda.
Even with Harcourt’s refound confidence in front of goal, the Eagles managed to keep pace with the Lions in the opening quarter, kicking five goals of their own as the scores were tied at 31 after an entertaining first quarter.
With both teams determined to halt their opponent’s offensive momentum, the second quarter cooled into a more defensive affair, where top players excelled in the slower tempo.
Dunolly’s Ryan Burt, Lachlan Tranter and Joel Fisher matched up well with Harcourt’s Mark Noonan, Joshua Hogg and Jack Threlfall, but the Lions’ experience allowed them to conjure an eight-point lead by half time.
The third quarter was another low-scoring term, yet two unanswered goals from the visitors seemingly put the game out of reach for the Eagles, as Harcourt extended their margin to 23 points at three-quarter time.
Despite the Eagles kicking the opening goal of the quarter, Cameron Anderson delivered the dagger for the Lions, converting a tough set shot before Baxter Gurd’s second of the game officially sealed a long-awaited win for the visitors.
Jed Rodda’s four-goal perfor-mance was awarded by being named best on ground for the Lions, while Noonan, Hogg, Threlfall, Braydon Vaz and Tom Stefaniw were also named the best players.
Burt led the way in a spirited Dunolly performance named in the best players alongside, Tranter, Fisher, Mathew Bradley, Lachlan Watson and Kallum Schepers.
Daniel Trull was the Eagles’ only goal-kicker with multiple goals for the Eagles, scoring two.
