Hannett’s hundred guided his team to a strong total of 237 that Carisbrook couldn’t chase down despite a spirited fight from Jordan Hooper, who finished not out on 72.

Laane won the toss and elected to bat on their home surface, with openers Hannett and Tom Hart looking to put the visitors under immediate pressure.

Carisbrook somewhat surprised their opponents by using spinner Dean Nalder to open the bowling alongside Atticus Cullinan.

After his semi-final heroics last season, Cullinan was at it again, dismissing Hart for 10 in the third over after he was caught by Angus Morrison.

Nafis Shaikh settled in quickly alongside Hannett, but the visitors’ unconventional opening pairing was holding Laane from their typical breakneck speed, with the hosts sitting at 1/45 after 10 overs.

After Nalder bowled his allotted eight overs consecutively, conceding just 18 runs, Shaikh and Hannett gradually increased the run rate on their way to an 88-run partnership.

Their partnership was ended by Elliot Cullinan catching Shaikh in front for an LBW after he made 43.

Despite Shaikh’s removal, Laane continued to up the tempo with Josh Fitzpatrick in the middle, reaching 2/160 with 10 overs remaining.

Fitzpatrick’s innings was ended with the first ball of the 31st over for a run-a-ball 22, as Elliot Cullinan struck again with an LBW.

Now joined by Joe Lovel, Hannett was methodically working towards triple digits, with the help of some clever running between the wickets.

However, it looked like he would fall short after an errant shot picked out Atticus Cullinan deep on the leg side. Fortunately for Hannett, Cullinan dropped the chance.

After Cooper Mark got the breakthrough of Lovel for 16 to put Laane at 4/200, Hannett made the most of his second chance to reach his century.

The hosts began throwing caution to the wind, with Mark taking full advantage to bowl Ayaz Sahibi for six in the final over.

Laane added an extra three runs in the final over to finish their innings on 5/237, with Hannett’s sublime innings ending on 111.

Youngsters Mark and Elliot Cullinan earned their break-throughs for Carisbrook, finishing with top figures of 2/42 and 2/44 respectively.

Carisbrook had their work cut out with the set target of 238, needing Brayden Wright and Elliot Cullinan to weather the early storm.

Carisbrook’s openers brought the fight to the one-day reigning premiers, combining to score 25 runs in the first six overs before Wright was bowled by Fitzpatrick for 12.

After scoring a hard-hitting 51 against Maryborough last week, Atticus Cullinan was promoted to third in Carisbrook’s lineup.

Unfortunately for Atticus, he never got a chance to repeat his half-century, run out for a two-ball duck by Lovel to have the visitors reeling at 2/30.

That brought Hooper into the game, who, alongside Elliot Cullinan, stemmed the flow of wickets. However, the run rate was continuously dropping as Laane’s clinical bowling and superb fielding limited Carisbrook’s chances to score.

The pressure became too much for Elliot Cullinan, caught by Fitzpatrick off the bowling of Alex Cook for a well-made 24 to have Carisbrook at 3/64 after 18 overs.

Similar to his four-wicket performance against Clunes in round one, Cook began to wreak havoc with the ball, giving Laane a definitive edge in the match.

In his next over, Cook trapped Nalder for an LBW, removing the dangerous all-rounder for a duck just before the drinks break.

In his first over after the intermission, Cook struck again, this time bowling Cooper Mark for one to put Carisbrook at 5/72.

The new partnership of Hooper and Martin Mark showed great determination, with Hooper loosening up as he neared his half-century.

Despite some great shots from Hooper to reach his 50, Laane’s bowling attack ensured the duo couldn’t make a strong charge towards the target, allowing the hosts to take the victory.

Hooper produced the highlight of Carisbrook’s day with his 72 not out, while Martin Mark played well to end unbeaten on 18.

Cook maintained his early-season form with the ball, taking 3/13 from eight overs with three maidens, while Fitzpatrick (1/15) was the only other wicket taker for Laane.
