The Maldon Golf Club has suffered a significant blow, with the theft of a specialised golf cart trailer from their facilities recently.

The club is appealing for witnesses or any information about the black/charcoal trailer, which is believed to have been stolen from the golf club (off Golf Link Road, Maldon) sometime between Monday, December 27, 2022 and Monday, January 2, 2023.

It is 7x5 ft in size, includes a tailgate ramp and tilts for loading, with the registration number X52840 and VIN number 6APBXTRLGT003859.

Maldon Golf Club’s Bob Briggs said the selfish act has had an effect on members at the club.

“We found out last Monday that the trailer was stolen,” he said.

“It’s a trailer that was not just for us, it’s an available trailer that is purpose-built for carrying golf carts. It has a larger-than-normal tailgate, which acts as a ramp for the loading of the golf carts, and the tray of the trailer tilts to enable easy loading.

“What it’s done is restrict the availability for our members to take a golf cart to another district or regional golf club, to participate in events there.

“Being part of a golfing fraternity, you do regularly like to go and support other clubs’ major events and special golf days.

“Unfortunately, there’s a big market for these kinds of trailers.”

Briggs said information has been posted to community pages on social media to try to gain information about the potential whereabouts of the trailer, however, they have not had much luck.

“We haven’t had any information. It’s been reported to the police, and we’ve also posted advice to our members, and put out a couple of Facebook posts on Maldon community pages. While we have had a lot of sympathy for what’s happened, we haven’t had any concrete leads as to what might have occurred,” he said.

Briggs had a strong message for those who were involved in the theft of the trailer.

“Their insensitive actions have resulted in a lot of pain for the golf club and its members,” he said.

“The golf club is a not-for-profit organisation — we rely on a lot of members volunteering for everything that happens here, so this is a smack in the face for members who volunteer their time.

“It’s insensitive because of the additional hardships for the club. A trailer that’s been bought from members’ fundraising activities has now been lost, and at the end of the day, someone has made their own decision to thieve from a good group of community people.”

If you know the whereabouts of the trailer, you can contact Maldon Police on 5475-2210 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or by online by visiting www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
