Golf and Highland Gold claim first wins for the season

The fourth round of midweek bowls was played on Wednesday due to the Melbourne Cup.
In the closest game of the morning, Maryborough Golf was able to defeat Talbot by just six shots, taking their first win of the season.
Golf had a strong 23-16 victory on rink one, but Talbot were able to hit back on rink two, scoring a 24-9 win. But Golf were able to come through and win rink three to take 14 premiership points, winning 30-16 for a 62-56 overall win.
Highland Gold likewise took their first victory of the season with a strong 74-49 overall win over Avoca.
Avoca were able to take two match points when they were able to take a 23-19 win on rink one, but Highland Gold dominated rinks two and three, winning 25-13 on rink two, and 30-13 on rink three.
In another close encounter, Highland Tartan maintained their unbeaten record when they defeated a gallant Dunolly Gold 61-53.
Dunolly Gold were able to take two of the rinks on offer, with a 21-18 victory on rink one and an 18-17 victory on rink two, but it was rink two which helped Tartan keep their spot atop the ladder with a 26-14 victory.
In the final game of the round, Dunolly Blue took advantage of Talbot and Dunolly Gold’s losses to move up to second on the ladder, courtesy of a dominant 80-30 victory over Carisbrook.
Dunolly Blue were able to complete the sweep, winning 25-14 on rink one, 25-12 on rink two and an emphatic 30-4 victory on rink three which saw them move from fifth to second.
