Following on from its inaugural success, which was boosted by a significant turnout, Maryborough’s free community event is returning this weekend for its second iteration.
Phillips Garden will once again host the Goldfields Community Festival this Saturday — with a fun-filled day planned for all residents.
Organised by Go Goldfields in conjunction with the Committee for Maryborough, the Maryborough District Health Service and the Central Goldfields Shire Council, the initiative was launched to meet the demand for more family-oriented activities in the area.
With this in mind, according to Committee for Maryborough’s Kerrie Dowling, the upcoming festival is setting the stage for a grander affair compared to its predecessor.
“It’s all coming together nicely,” she said.
“There’s so much happening on the day so I’m sure we’ve got something for everybody.
“Last year was really successful, we had about 1000 people through the gate and that was definitely more than what we were expecting.
“We’re hoping for similar or greater numbers this year because we also have more things happening — there’s around 47 different things going on.”
The event will feature a range of activities and performances, including a climbing wall, face painting, circus workshop, level up gaming, stage music, buskers, as well as plenty of food options.
However, Ms Dowling said, the highlight of the day is that attendees will incur zero costs.
“No hands in pockets — everything is totally free and that’s a pretty significant thing because it doesn’t disadvantage anyone,” she said.
“Nobody has to worry for the day.
“It’s great for families to come out together, there’s not many events like this one, that’s free as well.”
Visitors and locals will also have the opportunity to interact with community organisations, providing essential services in the region.
“It’ll show people what other services there are in the community that they can access if required,” Ms Dowling said.
“Parents can bring their kids along to have fun and at the same time, see what the shire has to offer.”
Goldfields Community Festival will be held on April 27 at Maryborough’s Phillips Gardens, from 11 am until 4 pm — all activities and food will be available at no cost.
