The Maryborough Giants have confirmed they are a force to be reckoned with in the 2024 A grade netball season courtesy of a six-goal victory over Lexton.

Indeed, the contest was tight throughout the day, but it was the Giants who found themselves in front right when it mattered most.

Lexton were a nose in front at the first change, scoring 13 goals to 12. Rachel Phelan scored 10 goals for the Tigers, while Leesa Donhardt added three, while for the Giants, Abbey Raven scored seven goals, and Annalyse Carroll five.

It was still Lexton by a goal in the second quarter, as both teams halved the goals at 11 apiece. For the Giants, Carroll scored nine goals and Raven two, while Donhardt scored seven goals for Lexton, and Phelan four.

The third quarter saw the Giants make the most significant move of the day, scoring 19 goals to 11 to lead 42-35 at the last change. Much of the damage was through Carroll, who scored 15 goals, while Raven and Abbey Devereaux added two goals apiece. For Lexton, Phelan added eight goals, and Donhardt three.

Lexton did what they could to get back into the game, but they couldn’t quite reel the Giants back, with the Giants holding on by six goals. Carroll scored eight more goals to finish with 37 goals in a commanding performance, while Raven added three. For Lexton, Donhardt and Phelan scored six goals apiece, with Phelan leading the way with 28 goals.

The Giants now travel to Harcourt as they look for a fifth straight win, while Lexton will need to bounce back with a tough task against the unbeaten Carisbrook.
