An undermanned Newstead were never really in the match with the Giants after trailing by 24 points at quarter time, and eventually lost the game by 52 points.

The Steaders have had an injury plagued season losing a number of their key players including coach Joel Smith, who after a set back with a broken wrist is now unavailable for the remainder of the season.

Giants coach Damian Cupido put on a show and showed what he is capable of when he slotted eight goals in the big victory. This included three goals in the opening term with one being an amazing snap over his left shoulder.

The goal of the day came form Lachlan Bates in the second quarter when he punched the ball forward from a pack, ran forward to receive the handpass, then ran forward and goaled on the run.

Bates had the ball on a string for most of the game and was named as the best player for the visitors and was well supported by Jonathon Short who played his best game since joining the Giants from Kangaroo Flat. Cupido was also named amongst the better players as was Cody Wright, Aiden Carter, and John Leathan.

The bullocking work of youngster Aiden Carter was also noticeable and deserves praise as he set up numerous attacking moves.

Aidan McConachy and Anthony Robins tried hard all day for the Steaders, as did Tyler James, slotting five goals for the game, and Jovian Goulton had a good duel in the ruck with Giant Jack Broad. Alex Murphy and Harrison McGuire were also among the better players named for Newstead.
