A fast-starting Maryborough Giants team have made it eight wins on the trot, holding Newstead at arms’ length in the remaining three quarters to win by 20 goals.

The Giants got off to a stellar start on Saturday, scoring 18 goals to five in the first quarter to lead by 13 goals. Annalyse Carroll scored 16 goals for the Giants, while for Newstead, Tayla Gale scored twice, and a player not named in the system scored three times.

The second quarter was a lot tighter, with Newstead getting into gear, but the Giants were still able to win the quarter with 14 goals to 11 to lead 32-16 at the main break. Carroll scored 10 goals, and Abbey Raven four for the Giants, while for Newstead, Gale scored four times.

The third quarter was more of a defensive affair, with the Giants scoring 12 goals and Newstead 10, which meant the Giants led 44-26 at the final change. Carroll scored eight goals and Raven four for the Giants, while for Newstead, Gale scored four times.

The last quarter was a higher scoring one, with the Giants scoring 16 goals and Kangaroos 14. Carroll scored 12 goals to finish with 46 goals for the day, and Raven four for the Giants, while Gale led the way with eight goals in the last term to finish with 18 goals.

The Giants now face an enormous game against Natte Bealiba when they reconvene in two weeks’ time, while Newstead, who are now just outside the top eight, will be facing a crunch clash with the seventh-placed Trentham.
