Maryborough Giants warmed up for their big clash against Avoca by registering a 22-goal victory over Harcourt.
The Giants were able to rotate their goalscoring contribution, but it was still enough to take care of an improving Lions outfit.
It was another fast start from the Giants which saw them lead 16 goals to five at the opening change. Laura McStravick scored nine goals for the Giants, while Abbey Raven scored six goals and Talia Hurdsfield one. For the Lions, a private player scored four goals and Tegan McKay one.
The Giants continued on their way to score 18 goals to seven in the second term to lead 34-12 at the main break. McStravick scored 12 goals, Raven four and Hurdsfield two for the Giants, while McKay scored three goals for the Lions.
Harcourt, to their credit, were able to keep themselves in the third quarter, scoring 12 goals, but the Giants still won the quarter, scoring 13 to lead 47-24 at the final break. Hurdsfield scored six goals, McStravick five and Raven two for the Giants, while McKay added five for Harcourt.
The Lions were able to win the last quarter in scoring 13 goals to 12, but it was the Giants’ day. Hurdsfield finished strongly with eight goals to finish with 17 for the day, while Raven scored four to finish with 16, with McStravick leading the way with 25 goals. For Harcourt, McKay scored three goals and Rhian Selwood one, but it was their private player leading the way with 24 goals.
The Lions will now look to bounce back on the winners list with a clash against Maldon, while the Giants face a big game with the ladder-leading Avoca.
