Maryborough Giants hit back from their loss to Avoca in a big way on Saturday, departing Campbells Creek with the four points thanks to a comfortable 46-goal victory.

The Giants were able to welcome back star goalscorer Annalyse Carroll, which helped straighten up the midcourt delivery as they put together their best return in front of goal since round six.

It was another fast start from the Giants which allowed them to take a 16-4 lead at the opening change, with Carroll scoring nine goals and Abbey Raven seven. For the Magpies, Lillie Wrigley scored all four goals.

The Giants were proving economical in front of goal, making use of most of their opportunities, while Creek weren’t quite able to make theirs count, and were punished for their misses by defenders Ruby Saunder and Lacey Broad, who were able to start moves with ease for the Giants.

Carroll, in the meantime, was doing much of the scoring as the Giants scored 19 goals to five to lead 35-9 at the main break, scoring 15 goals, while Raven scored on four occasions. Wrigley scored three goals for the Magpies, while Molly Kennedy scored two.

To Campbells Creek’s credit, they were at their most competitive in the third quarter, forcing more pressure on the Giants’ duo up front, and were able to get more looks in front of goal. However, the Giants were still able to win the quarter, scoring 15 goals to seven to lead 50-16 at the final change. Carroll scored 11 goals and Raven four for the Giants, while Wrigley scored four goals and Kennedy three for Creek.

The Giants powered on to ensure they would be back on track, scoring 18 goals to six in the last term. Carroll scored 12 goals to finish with 47 for the day, while Raven scored six goals to finish with 21.

For Campbells Creek, Wrigley scored four goals to finish with 15 goals, while Kennedy scored twice.

The Giants will now have the bye ahead of a crucial clash against Lexton, while Campbells Creek will have an equally big game at the opposite end of the ladder as they look to record their second win of the season against Dunolly.
