Gavriliadis crowned state champ

Maryborough Education Centre (MEC) student Jake Gavriliadis was recently crowned state champion in the School Sports Victoria State Championships, held on October 21.

Gavriliadis continued his dominant form which has seen him be a frequent medal contender in discus and shot put, claiming gold in the 18-20 year old boys discus competition, and finishing second in the 18-20 year old boys shot put.

Gavriliadis’ exploits were the highlights of what was a productive championships for MEC, with Charlie Sullivan finishing third in the 14 year old boys 100 m and fourth in the 14 year old boys 200 m.

The team of Campbell Wood, Will Soulsby, Brian Shafik-Eid and Logan Howell were terrific in the 16 year old boys 4 x 100 m relay, finishing in third position.

There were also qualifiers in Naomi Henderson and Kody Taggart who were unable to participate on the day, with Henderson qualifying for the 16 year old girls hurdles and Taggart the 18-20 year old boys 3000 m run.
