Gallery gravel ready
Gallery 127 is receiving a new stroke to its landscape as construction work commenced to re-gravel the surrounds of the historic Avoca Station.
Funding for the $7000 project was received last year from the Pyrenees Shire’s community grant program and is being completed by Simon Davidson of Avoca Mini excavations and St Arnaud Bobcat.
According to Avoca Arts and Gardens president Hugh Forster, the works have been on the community group’s bucket list for some time now.
“This has been on our agenda to do for a while and we had to wait for a grant to come up,” he said.
“When we originally opened the station, we had it gravelled at our expense and the grass and the weeds had started to come up, it was all undulating and it was not good, so we decided to re-gravel it.”
The pathway is expected to be completed in time for the Kaleidoscope of Activities in Avoca, a three-day celebration from Friday, October 25 to Sunday, October 27 showcasing some of the best food and wine, artwork and events in the town.
The Avoca Arts and Gardens is hosting multiple attractions across the three days, including the Avoca Art Show, Art Makers Market and illumination of the Barking Owl silo art.
Mr Forster said the completed footpath will improve the visitor experience for the upcoming festivities.
“For a community organisation such as ours which has assets, it’s critical to maintain those assets in a good condition for the public’s benefit,” he said.
“The Art Makers Market [will be held] all around the station — the re-gravelling is critical for the up to 20 to 30 stallholders and the community.
“The re-gravelling will make it easy for the public to come along, walk around the building and enjoy what the stallholders have to offer.”
