More than 30 community groups and events will benefit the Pyrenees Shire Council’s Community Funding Program.

Funding from the Pyrenees Shire Council was provided across four categories: community programs, minor capital and equipment, tourism event sponsorship, and community event support.

Mayor Damian Ferrari said the Community Funding Program recognised the contribution community organisations and local businesses make to the municipality.

“There was a diverse range of project types spread across the municipality this year with a real focus on asset improvements,” he said.

“We feel the projects that were funded address community needs and provide lasting benefits through infrastructure improvements and community-focused initiatives.”

The Community Funding Program supports local groups to deliver projects, events and services that strengthen community life in the Pyrenees.

A number of groups and events received funding, including:

• Advance Avoca — $2000 for Christmas decorations

• Avoca & District Senior Citizens Club — $2000 for community engagement and recruitment

• Lexton Football Netball Club — $7000 for netball light pole relocation

• Avoca Community Arts & Gardens — $3000 across three years and hall hire fee waiver for the Avoca Art Show

• Lexton Rural Fire Brigade — $1436 towards emergency forcible entry equipment

• Avoca Riverside Market — $12,000 across three years to support the market
