Started in 2012, the event promotes fun and inclusive physical activity, with participants encouraged to tackle either the short course (4.9 kilometres) or long course (9.8 kilometres) at their own pace.

Last year’s fun run saw some blistering times, with young Kody Taggart setting a new short course record with a time of 18:00, while Sophie Mark won the open female short course with a time of 27:52.

However, Maryborough and District Triathlon Club president Martin Mark said the event is less about personal bests and more about people enjoying exercise.

“Anyone is free to come along, whether that be running, walking or even turning up with the pram, it’s just all about participation,” he said.

“The look on people’s faces when they get through and finish puts smiles on everybody’s faces.

“When people set their mind to do something and set a goal and they reach it, there’s that sense of achievement, satisfaction and joy for them but for everyone involved at the club as well.”

Mark said the fun run is an extension of the club’s ambition to provide cheap and engaging avenues for residents to participate in physical activity.

“Swimming, riding and running are reasonably accessible activities that give people the opportunity to get active,” he said.

“We have got our new calendar being developed and we will be releasing that shortly for the 2025/26 season.

“We have an event on most months so if anyone is interested, come along and see if they would like to have a go at a triathlon.”

The Goldfields Reservoir Fun Run is on this Sunday, June 1 starting at the boat ramp area.

Registrations commence at 9 am for a 9.30 am start, with registration costing $1 for members and $2 for non-members.
