The Maryborough & District Triathlon Club conducted its fourth annual fun run utilising the upgraded Goldfields Reservoir walking track on Sunday, May 19, with many outstanding performances produced on the day.
Strong competition and times were produced by all athletes in the long course (9.8 km) which involved six laps of the Goldfields Reservoir walking track. In the open male category a class field of runners assembled at the start line, and all produced outstanding performances.
Jeff Beer and Aiden Rich set the early pace for this group with both athletes going stride for stride on the early laps. In the end however it was Aiden who pulled away on the final lap to set the fastest time of the day (40:15) to win this category. Jeff Beer (41:05) finished in second place, with long time participant Matt Morse (43:05) in third place, and Adam Lowery (46:53) in fourth place.
Young Ella Govan also enjoyed the under 16 female long course powering to the finish line to set a new female long course record for the new upgraded track of 47:08.
In the short course (4.9 km) which involved three laps of the walking track it was Kody Taggart who set a blistering pace from start to finish to also set a new short course record on the new upgraded track of 18:00 to win the open male category. Josh Britten also enjoyed the course and continued to increase pace as the event unfolded taking second place in the open male with the strong time of 25:05.
In the open female short course it was Sophie Mark who continued to increase pace as the event unfolded to take first place in a time of 27:52. Kate Cain also enjoyed the event conditions completing the 4.9 km in 31:39 to take second place. Jacqui Beer (32:40) was next to cross the finish line in third place, with Abbey Klemm and Abbey Mottram in a photo finish for equal-fourth place (37:58).
The under 16 female short course was also highly contested with Jayda Morse (41:52) in first place, Lizzy Bates (41:54) second place, and Kayari Latta-Yoong (46:38) in third place.
In the under 16 male short course it was event newcomer Bentley Meyer (22:53) who produced an outstanding performance to take first place, with Lleyton Morse (26:28) second place, Blake Martin (26:47) third place, Oakley Meyer (28:33) fourth place, Charlie Purchase (45:03) fifth place, Henry Bates (45:04) sixth place, and Freddie Bates (45:06) seventh place.
Martin Mark (28:37) won the 50+ male short course, and Rowena Butler (52:44) was first across the line in the 50+ female category.
The next club event will be held on Sunday, June 2 and will be a reverse triathlon or duathlon depending upon the completion of works to the newly refurbished Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre indoor 25 m pool.
