Unfortunately, the first round of the Phil Hooper Insurance A grade competition was called off due to persistent rain around Victoria.

The Maryborough region copped the brunt of Victoria’s big rain storm on Thursday night, before some more rain early on Friday morning gave the competition no choice but to cancel.

It means that games between Colts Phelans and Beaufort, as well as Laanecoorie Dunolly and Maryborough, will be declared drawn games, with three points given to each team.

The competition will now move ahead to round two, which will see Clunes host Maryborough at Bull Millgate Oval, while Beaufort will travel to Laanecoorie Dunolly. Colts Phelans’ season will not start until round three as a result, having the round two bye.

However, more rain is forecast for the Maryborough area this week, it could prove to be difficult for cricket to go ahead for round two.
