The Central Goldfields Shire Council is offering free green waste disposal to help residents prepare for the upcoming fire season.

Running from tomorrow, December 3 to Sunday, December 18 — Carisbrook, Talbot and Dunolly residents can drop off their green waste at their respective transfer stations.

Council is urging the community to prepare their properties ahead of the fire season by clearing undergrowth and fallen branches; moving firewood away from the house; cleaning leaves from gutters; and ensuring that grass is cut.

Mayor Grace La Vella said no matter where you live in Central Goldfields Shire it’s important that you prepare your property for the upcoming fire season.

“Even though it’s been a very wet year, if we get prolonged hot weather, it won’t take long for things to dry out and become a fire risk,” she said.

“Take the time to increase your understanding of the fire risk where you live, prepare your property, and talk to your loved ones about what you’ll do to stay safe from fire.”

Properties will also be inspected in the near future by council’s fire prevention officer who will assess whether they are ready for the summer. Residences that are deemed unprepared for the season may incur a fine.
