A free information session to teach locals more about dementia and caring for someone with the disease is headed to Maryborough this month.
Dementia Australia Loddon Mallee Region’s (Bendigo) team are currently setting up a Brain Hub Program in Maryborough which includes a community education presentation on dementia and sessions directly with service providers.
The education presentation — An Introduction to Dementia — will be held on February 28, aimed at members of the general public interested in learning more about dementia and/or are caring for a person with dementia.
“We are delighted to support the community of Maryborough by providing these free information sessions in person,” Dementia Australia general manager of service operations Belinda Nixon said.
“Dementia is the leading cause of death for Australian women and there is no cure. However, there are many ways we can support people living with dementia, and their carers, to live well. The key is to better understand the condition and know how support can be accessed.”
Dementia Australia aims to enhance the responsiveness of rural and regional service provision by developing a greater understanding of the existing dementia support services available to the Maryborough community.
“If anyone is worried about their memory or cognition, or that of their loved one, please register to join one of the sessions or give us a call on 1800 100 500,” Ms Nixon said.
“Similarly, if you are recently diagnosed or have been living with dementia for some time, reach out to us. We support people at all stages of dementia or mild cognitive impairment.”
The information session will be held at the Maryborough Highland Society at 10.30 am on Tuesday, February 28.
