Cam McClure made his first outing for the Melbourne Stars on Friday afternoon as they played a practice match against crosstown rivals, the Melbourne Renegades at the Junction Oval.

However, it proved to be a tricky day for bowlers, with both teams combining for 441 runs, while just nine wickets were taken.

The Stars were able to finish their innings on 7/220, with McClure not required with the bat.

In response, the Renegades, who look set to be one of the stronger squads in the upcoming Big Bash League season, were able to chase down the Stars’ target with ease, scoring 2/221, with Jono Wells making an unbeaten 102 off just 53 balls.

McClure was one of the two wicket-takers for the Stars, alongside Englishman Luke Wood.

Bowling early in the powerplay, McClure had a tough task against Victorian teammate, former Australian opener Aaron Finch, who finished on 79 not out, as well as fellow Victorian Sam Harper.

Harper would hit three successive sixes from McClure’s bowling, but McClure responded well by taking his wicket afterwards.

McClure eventually finished with figures of 1/37 from two overs.

The Big Bash League season begins tonight, with the Stars set to travel to Sydney to take on the Sydney Thunder, before playing their first home game on Friday night against the Hobart Hurricanes.
