The Fire Danger Period (FDP) is now in effect for Central Goldfields Shire, and most surrounding regions.
The FDP began at 1 am on Monday for Central Goldfields, Pyrenees, Hepburn, Ballarat, and Greater Bendigo shires.
Loddon Shire’s FDP began on December 12.
Mount Alexander Shire’s FDP will commence on December 28.
The FDP commencement date marks one of the latest starts to a local fire season for some years, delayed due to the return of a La Niña weather pattern creating widespread rainfall and flooding in parts of the state over the past few months.
According to the Seasonal Bushfire Outlook, this fire season is expected to be normal in Victoria, except for parts of central, north east and eastern Victoria where the potential is below normal.
No burning off is permitted during the FDP without a permit to burn, which can be applied for through the Fire Permits Victoria website www.firepermits.vic.gov.au
