The Clunes Field and Game branch was the location for the 2023 Field and Game National Carnival over the weekend.

Australia’s best field and game shooters made their way to the town to compete across three days, with a practice day on Friday, followed by the national championships across Saturday and Sunday.

Shooters were due to participate in the 100-target English Sporting event on Monday.

Field and Game Australia chairman Danny Ryan said Clunes was a strong location to host an event of such magnitude.

“Clunes has always been a strong branch, and it has some of the best topography in the country for conducting the events at the national level. It’s an excellent location to host the event,” he said.

“It provided lots of nearby accommodation, with people staying as far as Maryborough, Hepburn Springs, Daylesford, Clunes, Creswick, Ballarat and Beaufort.

“There’s 675 competitors across the weekend, and 260 for the event on Monday.

“Competitors came from as far as the Northern Territory, as we have a very active branch in Darwin. We have 68 branches nationwide, and represented by every state and territory across the country. A broad splattering across the country arrived for the event.

“We’re pleased to see the community adopting the event and recognising that the event is beneficial to them.”

In the AA grade, Adam Hirchfield, Chris Brown and Mark Du Rose were the category winners, while in A grade, James Humphries, Robbie Rainone and Darren Sasse were also successful.

In B grade, Timothy Friend, Matthew Offer and Jimmy Melville were category winners, with C grade’s podium made up of Shane Cann, Brian Smith and Nicholas Squires.

In the ladies division, Lyndall McNeill, Charlie Hudson and Bianca Norris were the category winners, and in veterans, Eddie Magee, Ron Rhook and Chris Charleson were the winners.

In the junior division, Nate Palubiski, Bailey Gatt and Ryan Saliba were the category winners, and in sub-juniors, Matthew Nedinis, Marcus Keirl and Tom Norton also found success.
