Damian Ferrari has been elected the Pyrenees Shire Council’s new mayor for the next year, with Rebecca Ward-law voted in as the council’s first deputy mayor.

This marks the second time Cr Ferrari has served as mayor, following his initial term in 2020/21, after he was first elected as the Beaufort Ward councillor in 2018.

Cr Ferrari replaced outgoing mayor Tanya Kehoe, who was elected 12 months ago.

A first time councillor, Cr Wardlaw was elected to represent the Avoca Ward in November last year.

Cr Ferrari said one of his aspirations is to continue the strong advocacy work currently being carried out by council, particularly around the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund.

“I thank the councillors for having the confidence to elect me for the next 12 months,” he said.

“It’s an honour to serve as a councillor and an even bigger honour to serve as mayor. It’s not a position I take lightly.”
