Community feedback on a heritage review of the Maldon Historic Central Area is being sought by Mount Alexander Shire Council.

The area comprises of the buildings, structures and public spaces on Main Street, High Street and Templeton Street and the review — commissioned as part of the Maldon Streetscape Project — is aimed at strengthening heritage protection for the heart of Maldon.

Mount Alexander Shire Council manager of development services, Georgina Hope, said that the Maldon Historical Central Area is recognised by the community as the heart of the town, and a place where people meet, exchange and socialise.

“Maldon is distinguished from other small towns for its picturesque and intact streetscape,” she said.

“The review for the historical central area focuses on both the tangible and intangible elements of Maldon’s cultural heritage significance.”

Community consultation is open from now until September 16. Feedback can be provided via council’s online engagement platform at shape.mountalexander.vic.gov.au

Feedback can also be given at an in-person drop-in session to be held on September 1 from 10 am to 12 pm at the Old Bank Corner on the corner of Main Street and High Street, Maldon.
