The family of a 20-year-old man who’s hand was crushed in a machine at Maryborough’s True Foods factory on Friday say he is “remaining positive”, despite the serious injury which saw him airlifted to hospital.
The local man was cleaning a dough machine at the factory just before 9.30 pm when his arm became stuck.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and found the man’s right and middle index finger and knuckles jammed in the machine.
The man was airlifted to St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne in a stable condition.
SES crews dismantled the machine.
The man’s family said they are concerned about his long-term recovery.
“He is recovering as well as can be expected and is remaining positive, however we are not sure the reality of the situation has sunk in yet,” they said.
“We are mostly concerned about the longer term and how it will affect his future.”
A WorkSafe spokeswoman confirmed WorkSafe is currently investigating the incident.
