“Eureka!” - gold bash coming in October
All roads will lead to Laanecoorie later this year as the hit annual gold bash event returns for its 12th year.

Boasting a program of all things gold related to keep newbies, enthusiasts and hardcore prospectors alike entertained across the event’s three days.
Set to take place on October 11-13, the event kicks off with its official opening on Friday along with a roast dinner, barbecue and game of trivia before the gold-seeking fun begins on Saturday.
On the Saturday itself activities and events will range from gold panning, static displays, stalls, demonstrations, gold tours and prospecting related lectures.
New to this year’s event will also be the inclusion of market day on the Saturday, with many vendors set to attend with a range of items for sale beyond prospecting supplies.
Fan-favourite activities including token hunts, the stake your claim event and a major raffle draw will also feature, with Saturday’s fundraising finalised with a gold bash auction hosted by Aussie Gold Hunters’ Brent Shannon.
Barista made coffee and catering will also be available throughout the weekend.
Laanecoorie Gold Bash 2024 coordinator Amanda Downing said the event is a community minded initiative.
“We’re very excited at the prospect of growth in our gold bash, the boost for local businesses and support for our community projects,” she said.
“We’re also reminding our prospecting community groups that the bash is a great opportunity to showcase their services to prospectors young, or young at heart.”
The Laanecoorie Gold Bash also doubles as a fundraiser, with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre the major beneficiary throughout the event’s history.
Having raised just over $36,000 last year, the committee have again set their sights on a similar fundraising target this year, and will also be selling gold ribbons over the course of the weekend with all proceeds going to The Kids’ Cancer Project.
While there are several months until the event gets underway, organisers and volunteers are hard at work and Ms Downing thanked their continued support.
“Our committee members have worked hard for the 12th anniversary this year,” she said.
“[We] thank the volunteers, sponsors, stall holders, members, lecturers, and our prospecting community for putting in such a big effort to run the bash this year, which already has drawn interest from new prospectors Australia wide.”
