The Goldfields Sustainability Group are set to host an ethical investment information session this weekend for locals to learn about what the financial practice means.
Ethical investing is the practice of factoring in people, society and the environment into investment decision making, such as investing in funds and companies that demonstrate a positive environmental and social impact.
Goldfields Sustainability Group — a collection of residents from the Central Goldfields Shire passionate about living sustainably and building a sustainable future — is set to host a talk on the topic.
Group secretary Barry Parsons said he has an interest in financial sustainability and where people invest their money, which he wants to share with the community.
“Being interested in sustainability issues and where people invest their money is influential on how companies behave in a sustainable manner,” he said.
“My wife and I, and other members of the Goldfields Sustainability Group have followed along on how to invest in a sustainable manner.
“It’s come along over a period of time, as retirees we’ve had to make decisions about how we invest our money.
“We went to one of the sustainable living festivals in Melbourne recently and we were interested in what was being spoken about.”
The Goldfields Sustainability Group’s ethical investment talk this Saturday will feature guest speaker Elizabeth Hatton, director and advisor at VivaEthical Financial Advice who will provide a talk on ethical and sustainable investments.
Ms Hatton regularly speaks at the National Sustainable Living Festival where she most recently ran an activity taking the audience through A-Z of what ethical and responsible investing is, and gave attendees the tools to help define their ethical priorities, gain information and make choices.
Mr Parsons said he hoped those who attend the local event gain an understanding of why others find sustainable finance interesting and important.
The talk will run this Saturday, July 16 at Mill House Neighbourhood House from 2 to 4 pm.
Event registration is necessary, with spaces limited to 25 people.
To RSVP, email Mr Parsons on goldfieldssg@gmail.com or message on 0423 833 506.
Mill House is located at 88-90 Burke Street, Maryborough.
