The wheels are well and truly in motion for this year’s Energy Breakthrough (EB) event, with the Community Bank signing on as this year’s official volunteer sponsor.
The Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud announced the sponsorship last week, which will assist EB in attracting new volunteers while supporting and recognising the efforts of long-standing ones.
The sponsorship will also see the Community Bank assist in providing uniforms, training and catering for the event in what is a significant boost for its 31st year.
EB is recognised as one of Maryborough’s biggest annual events, attracting more than 5000 students from over 110 schools across the state to participate in a four-day event centred around human-powered vehicles the students race.
Central Goldfields Shire councillor Liesbeth Long, who also sits on the event’s management committee, said the partnership was a big step forward for this year’s event.
“We are thrilled and grateful to the Community Bank for their investment in EB and specifically their commitment to supporting the hundreds of volunteers who play such a critical role in the event’s success,” she said.
“This partnership builds on many years of investment by the Community Bank — whereby they have supported local schools across many years.
“The Community Bank’s commitment to investing back into our local community is admirable and we are fortunate they recognise the value and significance of EB to our local community.”
The Community Bank is based on a profit with purpose model, meaning a majority of their profits are returned directly to the community that’s generated them.
A former participant of EB, the Community Bank’s customer relationship manager Aley Earl said she was thrilled to further support the event.
“We’ve been proud to sponsor our local school EB teams since 2010,” she said.
“While we continue to do this, we understand that without the volunteers, none of the schools would be able to compete.
“As a previous participant of EB, I’m thrilled to see our support of the event expand via the partnership with council and the volunteer program.”
This year’s EB event will take place in just a month’s time, running from Wednesday, November 22 to Sunday, November 26.
