MARYBOROUGH ROVERS (60) def HARCOURT (37)

It might be the most important win in Maryborough Rovers’ recent A grade netball history, with their 23-goal triumph over Harcourt giving them a chance to secure an emotional finals spot in their last year of operations.

In fact, if Rovers can get over the top of fourth-placed Lexton next week, while relying on Navarre losing to Carisbrook, they could yet secure their spot next week, as they sit two games and a significant amount of percentage ahead of the Hoppers in ninth.

A powerful second half was the catalyst for Rovers getting over the Lions after the two sides fought out an excellent first half. Rovers took a narrow four-goal lead into the first change, having scored 13 goals to nine, and were able to extend this to nine goals in the second quarter after scoring a further 14 goals to nine in the term.

The offensive power of Rovers took over in the third quarter, scoring 17 goals to Harcourt’s 10 to take a match-winning 16 goal lead into the final term, an advantage that Rovers duly converted, finishing off the game with 16 more goals to the Lions’ nine.

Annalyse Carroll scored 45 goals for Rovers, while Abbey Raven added 15.

For the Lions, Navarre’s shock loss to Maldon keeps them inside the top eight, and will need to beat Newstead this week if they are to be any chance of finishing inside the top eight, given their run home includes top four teams Lexton, Avoca and Natte Bealiba.

Kate Blake scored 22 goals for them, while Rebecca Elliott scored 12.
