Carisbrook ran away with the game in the final three quarters to take a 146-point victory over Avoca.
It was a plucky Bulldogs outfit that well and truly stayed with their highly-fancied opponents throughout the opening quarter, kicking two goals, while restricting Carisbrook to three, and as a result, trailed by seven points at the first break.
But keeping the Redbacks to a low score is easier said than done in the competition, and it was Carisbrook who showed their class in the second quarter, kicking 10 goals, while holding Avoca to two points, to extend the lead to 70 at the main break.
A further seven goals to one in the third quarter meant that Carisbrook were able to push the lead beyond 100 points by the final change, while five goals to no score in the last quarter meant that the Redbacks were able to win comfortably in the end.
Ash Munari’s six goals meant that he was best on ground for the Redbacks, while Harry Butler, Andrew Toan, Zak Rinaldi, Dillan Treacy and Anthony Zelencich — who powered towards 50 goals for the season with a bag of eight — were also solid contributors.
For the Bulldogs, Scott Cawthan, Jaye Farnsworth, Cody Lubeek, Bryce Howell, Cameron Antonio and Samsen Boothey were all named in their best, while Tyson Cope kicked two of their three goals.
