CARISBROOK 3/114 def by COLTS PHELANS 4/116
Colts Phelans were too strong with the bat, as they helped themselves record a six-wicket win over Carisbrook.
Colts won the toss and elected to bowl first, giving their bowlers a chance to navigate the Brook batting lineup with consistent line and length.
The early stages were a great success for Colts, as they managed to take two quick wickets.
First, Nick Henderson snared the wicket of William Coutts as he was clean bowled for one, before Dave Robinson got in on the act by luring Martin Mark into nicking a ball to Luke Tatchell behind for one.
James Adam and Dean Nalder had a task ahead of them to ensure they wouldn’t let Colts get completely on top in the game, and they were successful in their endeavours.
At the same time, however, Colts were also making it hard for quick runs to be scored, forcing both Adam and Nalder to bide their time.
As a result, Nalder was going at almost a run a ball, while Adam, stayed alongside him as they looked to put away bad balls.
Colts weren’t going to let that happen. With just a few balls left in the innings, Adam was out for 33, ending a 102-run partnership, and the innings soon finished with Carisbrook making 3/114.
Nalder finished on a well-made 59, enough to see him vault up to third on the run chart, while for Colts, Robinson led the way with 2/21.
Colts were looking to play with controlled aggression in order to chase down the total, and were successful in their early endeavours, with Rhys Wagstaff and Sebastian Borg quickly getting the score up to 24.
Borg was the first victim, bowled by Cole Harris.
Ten more runs were added before Wagstaff had to go, and was run out by Caleb Cluff for 19.
But Colts were sparked by Rhys Egan, making his return to the team, and alongside Robinson, the two were able to put together a very strong partnership, full of aggression.
Egan was able to make 39 off just 23 deliveries, hitting seven fours as he was able to shake off any rust he may have had very quickly, while Robinson continued what’s been a good start to life at Colts Phelans with a run-a-ball 33.
Robinson wouldn’t last until the end of the innings though, with Nalder catching him off his own bowling.
Egan, likewise, wouldn’t stay through to the end, and was bowled by Cooper Mark.
Luke Tatchell and Dayne Baker saw through the remaining runs to ensure Colts were able to take their third win of the year.
Nalder backed up his efforts with the bat by taking 1/20 with the ball, while Cooper’s sole over saw him record figures of 1/2.
