Maddy Egan’s outstanding season for the Maryborough Lady Blazers has been recognised, with the Country Basketball League (CBL) naming her in the All-Star Five in the North West Women’s division.
Egan was named alongside Melton’s Jessica Kivimets, Bacchus Marsh’s Jordan Wilson, Kyneton’s Michelle Fletcher and Bendigo’s Sharna Appleby in the final team.
She was the sole representative among both of Maryborough’s teams in the All-Star Five, with the likes of playing-coaches Claire Blower and Brady Neill, as well as Lachlan Drummond just missing out on an appearance in the final teams in the North West division.
Egan performed strongly throughout the season in tandem with playing coach Blower, with the two players combining for 291 points throughout the season, with Egan scoring 139 points in total at an average of 17.4 points per game.
It was an improvement on her 2021/22 season, which had yielded 131 points at an average of 11.9 points per game, with Egan showing her ability to be a handful for opposition defenders, with her reach inside the paint making her hard to guard.
Highlights included a season-high 31 points against the Melton Thoroughbreds in round five, while also finishing with 27 points in their round one victory against the Macedon Ranges Rockies.
Overall, Egan finished with four games where she scored 20 points or more, with a further three games resulting in hauls of 10 points or more.
She fought hard in their recent semi-final loss to Bendigo, where she scored 10 points, with the Braves eventually going on to win the CBL title over the weekend following a 78-63 victory over Mildura.
