The Fire Danger Period (FDP) will end earlier than expected, finishing in the Central Goldfields andMount Alexandershires this month.

Initially expected to end in May, the CFA have announced the earlier dates — Loddon’s FDP ended on April 3, whileCentral Goldfields and Mount Alexander will end on April 12.

The date has been brought forward as light rain and cooler conditions across central Victoria has led to a decreased fire risk.

“Because of the reduction in fire risk, now is the appropriate time to cease the fire danger period and lift restrictions in some municipalities,” CFA North West region manager community safety David Allen said.

“CFA are urging everyone to stay safe, whether you’re living in or travelling to high bushfire/grassfire risk areas.

“Please monitor the conditions on hot, dry and windy days, as we may still see some days of elevated fire risk across the state.”

While the end of the FDP means landowners can begin burning off, CFA reminded residents they must check local conditions first.

“We urge people to register their burn-offs, check weather conditions as well as follow all local council laws and regulations,” Mr Allen said.

“Registering your burn-off ensures that if smoke or fire is reported, the incident is cross-checked with our register, which may prevent firefighters from responding to unnecessarily.

“When conducting burn-offs, you must remain alert and always have resources including people and an adequate water supply on hand to extinguish a fire should one start.”

The Pyrenees Shire’s end date is May 1.

Landowners can register their burn-off online at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au or by calling the Burn Off Notification Line on 1800 668 511.
