Dunolly are off the foot of the table in what was a very satisfying day all-round for the Eagles, defeating Trentham by six goals at Deledio Reserve as they also simultaneously kept alive their finals chances.
The Eagles were very impressive from go-to-whoa as they put together one of their best all-round performances this season to score their second win of the season.
The first quarter saw the Eagles get off to a flyer as they established a seven-goal lead at the first change, scoring 12 goals to five. Zoe Aldridge was a dominant force in the goal circle early in the piece, scoring nine goals, while Kate Ashman added three for the Eagles. For the Saints, Jacqui Bell scored four goals, while Zahlia Turton added one.
Dunolly were able to hold Trentham at bay in the second term whenever the Saints looked to make a move, with both teams scoring nine goals for the quarter as Dunolly led 21-14 at the main break. Aldridge added five goals for the Eagles, with Ashman supporting her with four, while for the Saints, Bell scored six goals and Turton three.
Trentham made their move in the third quarter as they looked to overrun the young Eagles lineup, scoring 11 goals to seven to make it a three-goal game at the final change, with the Eagles leading 28-25. Bell scored six goals for the Saints, while Turton added five, while for the Eagles, Aldridge scored six goals, and Ashman one.
It was a big test for the Eagles on the way home as they wanted to hold on, and they more than delivered, scoring 12 goals to nine to take the win. Aldridge scored five goals to finish with 25 for the day, while Ashman had her best quarter of the day to score seven goals to finish with 15. For Trentham, Bell scored six goals to finish with 22, while Turton added three.
The Eagles now rest up with their bye, while Trentham face a big test against Carisbrook.
