The clash at Avoca between the Bulldogs and Dunolly was predicted to be a close game and after Dunolly led at half time by 33 points, the Bulldogs pegged the lead back, but could only get within 12 points of the Eagles.

Avoca led at quarter time by 10 points and were reasonably happy to have the upper hand at the first change, but the Eagles countered with the aid of the breeze as they dominated possession out of the middle and were simply too fast for the Bulldogs as they slammed on seven goals to have the home team floundering at half time.

Avoca coach Zack Lubeek applied some words of wisdom at the main break and the Bulldogs came out firing reducing the margin to just 11 points at the final change to give the Dogs faithful plenty of hope.

However, the final quarter was goal for goal and every time Avoca looked like getting on top, the Eagles would answer the challenge.

The victory keeps Dunolly’s finals chances alive as they sit just outside the top eight, level on points with Maldon, but the Bombers have a better percentage.

The Bulldogs were hopeful of winning their third game on the trot, but it was not to be.

Dunolly’s Seth Galvin is having a stellar season and was again named as their best player, along with Daniel Trull, Lachlan Tranter, Xavier Ryan, Bailey Goodwin and Joel Fisher, and Mitch Goodwin was unstoppable around the goal mouth with four goals.

Avoca named their best players as Cody Lubeek, Scott Cawthan, Sean Moyle, Tyson Cope, Jordan Hayes, and Jason Hunt, who kicked four goals.
