It completes a remarkable turnaround for the Eagles, who finished 13th last season, and looks set to meet one of Maryborough Rovers, Harcourt or Navarre in the first week of the finals.
Despite the nature of the Eagles’ win, it was Maldon who got off to the stronger start, scoring 10 goals to eight in the opening term to take a two-goal lead at the first change.
But Dunolly got into the groove in the second term as they started to take control of the game, scoring 11 goals to five to take the lead, holding a four-goal advantage into the main break.
The third quarter saw the Eagles assume complete control of the game, scoring 15 goals, while restricting Maldon to just two, to take a near-unassailable 17-goal lead at the final change.
The Eagles cruised to victory from there, scoring 13 goals to 12 in the final term to lock their spot in the finals action.
