The Eagles were all over the Magpies in the opening 25 minutes, however unlike their recent performances in front of goal, they wasted numerous chances, allowing Campbells Creek to remain 12 points behind at quarter time despite having seven more scoring shots.

Campbells Creek took full advantage of Dunolly’s inaccurate scoring in the second quarter, as their constant pressure on the ball handler, strong tacking and defensive structure was a combination Dunolly was struggling to crack.

After Luke Bennett scored their opening goal, the Magpies allowed just two scoring shots in the second term, keeping the margin to 13 points at half time.

Frustrated by their inability to kick away from Campbells Creek, Dunolly started to generate momentum in the second half as Lachlan Tranter and Kallum Schepers found some space in the forward line.

The Eagles went on to kick 3.5 in the third term to extend their margin to a more comfortable 36 points at the final break.

After a gruelling three quarters, Dunolly overran Campbells Creek in the final quarter, scoring five unanswered goals to put the game to bed.

Tranter was the ignition Dunolly desperately needed in the forward line, kicking five goals while Schepers scored three and Ryan Burt and Jay McDonald kicked two each.

Tranter, Burt and McDonald were named in Dunolly’s best players alongside Tyler Kinnane, Daniel Trull and Adal Zuk.

Campbells Creek played their heart out to give themselves a chance at a spectacular upset at half time with Nicholas O’Brien, Billie Dunne, James Martinovic, Mitchell Stevens, Justin Garipoli and Thomas Langley named as their standouts.
