A Dunolly woman has died following a two-vehicle collision in Laanecoorie yesterday morning at around 8 am.
The 30-year-old female driver and single occupant of a Mazda SUV was travelling south on the Bridgewater-Maldon Road on Monday according to police.
Central Goldfields Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Andrew Henderson said the vehicle failed to give way at the intersection of the Bendigo-Maryborough Road, colliding with a Mitsubishi Triton utility travelling west.
“Speed doesn’t seem to be a factor in this collision and [the incident] could’ve been avoided if the driver had given way,” he said.
“People should slow down and drive to the conditions. And adhere to the intersection and road rules.
“If people don’t follow road rules that’s how fatalities and collisions happen — [yesterday’s] result is what we want to avoid. We don’t want this happening.”
The male driver of the Mitsubishi, a Bendigo resident in his 50s has been taken to Bendigo Hospital with minor upper body injuries.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said that paramedics treated the two people at the scene with the man in a stable condition.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, has dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
