Dunolly had to fight off a tenacious Avoca team on Saturday, but eventually won the game by 28 points.
The Eagles opened full of run slotting four goals and had the Bulldogs chasing tail in the opening term, as the home team dished the ball around and breaking lines with ease to take an early 21-point lead at quarter time.
But the Bulldogs tightened up their defensive structure in the second term and repelled the Eagles forward thrusts and started to fight back with three goals to one, including an amazing snap out of pack from coach Zack Lubeek to have the Bulldogs trailing by just nine points at half time.
The third term was a dour struggle as the Bulldogs kept the pressure on the Eagles to quell their run and carry, and it also showed on the scoreboard with the Eagle forwards missing many shots on goal from the pressure of the Bulldog defence.
It was only late in the term that the home team managed to break through for goals to Jake Willcocks and Bailey Goodwin to set up a 25-point margin going into the final quarter.
It was goal for goal in the final quarter, but the Eagles won the battle, and despite the scoreline, it was a hard fought victory.
The Bulldogs will again question their first term which proved costly as the remainder of the game was a very even battle.
Dunolly's better players were Lachlan Tranter, Goodwin, Adal Zuk, Zaiyden Richards, Corey Bray and Willcocks, who was the only multiple goal scorer in the victory.
Avoca named Sean Moyle, Scott Cawthan, Tyson Cope, Taylor Kennedy, Matt Newton, and Jamie Beavis as their better players, with Lubeek kicking three goals.
The Eagles now head to Campbells Creek next week, while Avoca host Trentham.
