Dunolly renewed their bid to enter the top four conversation with a stunning win away from home over third-placed Lexton at Lexton Reserve.
The Eagles took full advantage of Carisbrook and Trentham having their bye to move equal on points with both teams, and now face a huge game with Carisbrook at home.
On the face of this performance against the Tigers, Dunolly most certainly have the credentials to perhaps cause a bit of damage against the teams around them.
It was a strong start to the game for Dunolly, leading by 10 points at the opening change after kicking three goals from seven shots, while Lexton kicked two goals straight.
But the Tigers fought back well in the second term, holding Dunolly to a goal, while kicking two goals themselves to close the gap to five points by the main break.
The scoring opened up in the third term, but it was Dunolly who was doing most of the running, kicking five goals straight, while Lexton managed three goals, with the margin increasing to 16 points the Eagles’ way by the last change.
Both teams had some opportunities in the last term, but it was Dunolly who were slightly better at converting, kicking two goals from five shots, while Lexton could only manage one goal from the same number of shots.
Either way, it was the Eagles’ day as they took an important victory to almost certainly secure their second finals’ berth since 2009.
The versatile Oscar Keogh was named their best, with Jay McDonald, Daniel Trull, Jake Gavriliadis, Bailey Goodwin and Xavier Ryan continuing their strong form. Mitchell Goodwin was the key goalkicker for the Eagles, kicking three goals.
For the Tigers, Lochlan Pett was their best, with Alex McLean, Tom McGregor, Jaykeb Lench, Josh Sargent and Aiden Broughton also named in their better players, with Sargent and William Brand kicking two goals apiece.
