Dunolly hold Carisbrook to 58-point lead

A venomous first quarter from the Redbacks has allowed them to web past Dunolly and start their season with a 58-point victory.

After finishing outside of the top four last season, Carisbrook will hope this performance will be a statement victory against a fellow top four contender from last season.

Much of the damage was done in the first quarter, with the Redbacks almost automatic in front of goal, kicking six goals from seven scoring shots.

Despite the Eagles turning both their scoring shots into goals, they sat in a 25-point deficit looking for ways to stop the Redback's attack.

After the goal-filled opening term, both teams made clever adjustments to blunt their opponent's attack.

Both teams only scored one point each in the second quarter, as the margin remained at 25 points at the end of the first half.

Carisbrook found their offensive groove again at the start of the second half, registering nine scoring shots while only conceding two points to the Eagles.

However, the Redbacks were unable to turn those chances into a commanding lead, kicking two goals to push their advantage out to 42 points.

The Eagles needed a torrid run to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but the Carisbrook defence was having none of it, only allowing three goals for the game as the Redbacks pulled away for a 58-point win.

Star recruit Angus McKinna delivered immediately for his new team, kicking three goals and named in the best players for Carisbrook along with Mitchell Treacy, Jackson Bowen, Cohen Leech, Todd Bryant and Andrew Toan.

Joel Fisher was the Eagles' star performer in the defeat, while Bailey Wingrave, Lachlan Watson, Ryan Burt, Adal Zuk and Lachlan Tranter were also named the best players.
