Dunolly got themselves right back on track with a dominant 50-point win over the B.A Road Services Talbot Hawks, delivering a blow to the Hawks’ finals chances.
It was the second and third quarters which helped get the Eagles back on the winners list, scoring nine goals to three to make things comfortable at Talbot Recreation Reserve.
There were danger signs in the first quarter that it looked like the Eagles’ day, even though they were only able to kick two goals from seven scoring shots, while the Hawks managed one goal as they trailed by 10 points.
But the Eagles really got things together in the second quarter and sliced through the Hawks’ midfield, kicking five goals from 10 scoring shots to a solitary goal to increase their lead to 39 points by the main break.
The third quarter was a touch more competitive, and Talbot could have closed the margin a little more had they kicked a little straighter, kicking two goals from six shots. But the Eagles were able to increase their lead, kicking four goals to lead by 48 points at the last change.
The last quarter was a bit of a shootout, with both teams scoring five goals for the quarter as the game was freed up.
Dunolly did not have any best players named at the time of production, but Jake Willcocks was the dominant forward, kicking five goals, while Jay McDonald was industrious, adding two of his own. Mitch Goodwin was also busy, kicking three goals.
For Talbot, Jude McGuire was named as their best player, while Mitchell Webb, Brandon Solomano, Trent Severino, Luke Kemp and Jayson Atkins were also named in the best, with Atkins the only multiple goalscorer with two.
