Maldon broke through for their first win of the season with what was a quite easy victory over the Maryborough Giants by 114 points.

It was one way traffic for most of the game and the Bombers set up the victory with a four goal to one first term.

Aaron Millen scored the first goal of the game when Hayden Kelly hit him up with a slick handpass and Millen goaled on the run. Jack Broad goaled soon after for the Giants to give them some early encouragement but the Bombers kicked the next three goals to gain the early ascendency.

The Giants kicked the first goal of the second term through their vice-captain, Declan Wagstaff, but from this point in the game, the Giants were chasing tail as the Nombers kicked the next 14 goals in succession, until the Giants scored two goals in succession late in the third term through Zayne Earl and Cody Bravo.

The Giants went into the match undermanned and lost Murray Bond midway through the second quarter with what looked like a head injury, and Mitch Whelan also didn’t finish out the game leaving the visitors short-handed on the bench.

Brodie Leonard-Shannon, with six goals, was a key focal point for the Bombers and he was well supported by Callum Buchanan, who slotted four goals, including two in two minutes in the second term which included an amazing snapshot.

Noah Thompson had the better of Broad in the ruck and Seb Greene was in some particularly good form as he set the Bombers alight out of the middle.

It was a disappointing day for the Giants as they now face up to Lexton who had the better of Talbot by one solitary point on Saturday.

The Bombers head over to Campbells Creek to try to make it two wins in succession.

Maldon’s better players were Greene, Matt Gray, Thompson, Buchanan, Alex Farrow and Damian Wust.

Giants named Cody Wright, Lachlan Bates, Aiden Carter, Matt Walker, Ron Smith, and Wagstaff as their best players.
