Avoca is set to get better access to healthcare, following a major announcement made by Talbot’s Dr Jim Sharples who revealed plans to open a new clinic in the town next month.
In a statement released on social media earlier this week, Dr Sharples said he had partnered with the Central Highland Health Network (CHHN) to set up a new medical clinic — CHHN Avoca, in the location of the previous Avoca Tristar Clinic, which has been closed since last year.
While more information will be released in the coming weeks, the clinic is expected to open its doors to the public within the next fortnight.
“We have big plans for the site,” the statement said.
“We are going to do what I wanted to do in Talbot, with allied health, extra doctors, and all that good stuff.”
Prior to CHHN Avoca, Dr Sharples ran the Dr Jim Sharples’ Clinic in Talbot, which ceased operations in January owing to increased costs and staffing difficulties.
The announcement for the new clinic was also welcomed by the community — following the setback they faced in May last year after the closure of Avoca’s only medical centre, the Tristar clinic — which was forced to shut because its parent company, Khaled El-Sheikh, entered voluntary administration.
More to come in next week’s Advertiser.
