A contract has been awarded for the construction of an all-gender pavilion at Maldon’s Bill Woodfull Reserve.
The construction is part of a $1 million grant given to the club last year by the Mount Alexander Shire Council, which includes two gender-neutral change rooms for players and two gender-neutral change rooms for umpires, public toilets, an administration office and first aid and storage area, while lighting upgrades will also take place on the oval and netball courts.
Tarrengower Ward Coucillor Stephen Gardner believes it is a big step forward for Maldon’s facilities.
“The current facilities at Maldon don’t cater for women and girls, and we want to change that”, he said.
Construction at the club is expected to be completed in May 2024.
There are also other Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League clubs in the shire that are expected to benefit in the coming years, according to Cr Gardner.
“These improvements are part of a range of upgrades we’ve been making at sports and recreation reserves throughout the shire”, he said.
“Over the last few years we’ve upgraded facilities at Harcourt Recreation Reserve and Wesley Hill Recreation Reserve, and we’re planning for improvements at Camp Reserve and Campbells Creek Recreation Reserve”.
