A trip to Avoca wouldn’t be complete without stopping at the iconic Avoca Hotel. Dating from the gold rush era of the 1860s, the beautifully restored country hotel is about to start a new chapter as local brothers Brendan and Matt Veitch take over as proprietors.

Brendan said owning a pub has always been a life-long dream for the brothers, so when the chance arose to buy their beloved local, it was too good an opportunity to resist.

“It was one of those things Matt and I often talked about, and now the dream has become a reality,” Brendan said.

Although there are no immediate plans to make big changes, Brendan said they have already thought about re-opening the bottle shop and utilising the outdoor dining and beer garden more in the warmer months.

“We’re lucky to be able to build on the great reputation the pub has established and we’re really looking forward to meeting regulars as well as those travelling through.”
