LAANECOORIE DUNOLLY 4/92 trail BEAUFORT 101
Irrespective of Laanecoorie Dunolly inevitably getting the first innings points on the second day of play next Saturday, it has to be said that Beaufort’s fight has been admirable in this game.
Despite being bowled out for 101, the Crows’ persistence means that they end the first day of play nine runs ahead, with Laane having just six wickets in hand, meaning all results are at play as the second day approaches.
Laane won the toss and elected to send Beaufort in to bat. But with Kriss Ellis taking control in the early stages of the innings, the Crows were able to get to 18 before Benjamin Gunn was able to strike twice in quick succession, taking the wicket of Nicholas Cushing for two as he holed out to James Shorney, before coaxing Blake Jantzen into playing a shot straight to Joe Lovel.
Soon after, Lachie Condie would get in on the act, taking the all-important wicket of Ellis, who had made 20 before finding Tom Hannett to leave the Crows 3/24.
Lachlan Oddie and Charlie Dyer soon went to work on building a critical partnership for the game, which was at 18 before Oddie holed out to Matt Smith off Lovel’s bowling for 14, leaving the Crows in a precarious position at 4/42.
However, it was a credit to the Crows that they continued to fight hard. Dyer eventually made 12 before Damith Perera struck for his first wicket for Laane, finding an edge to Shorney for 12, before Richard Stokes was Lovel’s second victim, caught by Josh Lacey for eight.
Beaufort were soon 7/66 when Ben Woolidge was Perera’s second victim of the day, and that became 8/70 when Nick Stabbins was Lovel’s third wicket, finding the edge straight to Shorney.
Joel Pymer and Craig Grant fought hard to ensure that Beaufort would have something to defend by putting on an entertaining 31-run partnership which included some big shots. However, that all ended when Gunn came into the attack and took his third wicket, that being Pymer for 18, with Samit Gohil finishing off the innings with Grant’s wicket for 14.
Bowling stats for Laane were unavailable at the time of print deadline, but it was an even bowling performance, with Gunn and Lovel taking three wickets each, while Perera took two.
Against the form guide, Laane came out with an aggressive mindset when their innings got under way, and with 21 overs to play with, went at a brisk rate of just over four an over to get to 4/92 at stumps.
Batting figures were unavailable at the time of print deadline.
Jantzen was the Crows’ best bowler on day one, however, taking 2/6 off two overs, while Pymer (1/33 off nine) and Dyer (1/37 off six) also struck.
