LAANECOORIE DUNOLLY 1/114 drew BEAUFORT 142
Beaufort escaped with a dramatic draw on Saturday afternoon as rain put paid to an almost-certain Laanecoorie Dunolly victory.
Laane had reached 1/114 in response to the Crows’ 142 which was reached in 39.4 overs, but with 25 overs of Laane’s innings gone, the decision was made for play to stop, with both teams receiving three premiership points.
It was Laane who made a most impressive start, with Joe Lovel the chief destroyer early. The young bowler was able to get the wickets of Joshua Lofts and Blake Jantzen, both for ducks, with the latter requiring a diving catch from Lovel off his own bowling.
Shortly after, Nick Stabbins was removed for seven by Daniel Romeo, leaving Beaufort struggling at 3/19.
However, the Crows started to mount a bit of a fightback, and leading the charge was Lachlan Oddie. He would top-score for the Crows with 31 runs, and was largely responsible for a 29-run partership with Ben Woolidge which ended when Romeo took his second wicket.
Shortly afterwords, Romeo removed Stokes, bowling him for his third wicket of the game, and when Oddie was bowled by Samit Gohil for 31, the Crows were in desperate trouble at 6/64.
But, importantly for the Crows, the tail was able to wag, adding crucial runs to allow them to post a defendable total.
Craig Grant added 19 runs, while Nicholas Cushing added a further 30, which allowed the Crows to eventually finish on 142 runs.
Romeo had the best bowling figures, taking 3/18, while Lovel was impressive and good value for his 2/16 off eight overs.
In response, Beaufort made a good start when they were able to take the wicket of James Shorney with the score on 13, but Laane, through Tom Hannett and Gohil, would then embark on a 101-run partnership, with Gohil looking very comfortable for his 60 runs, while Hannett had reached 38.
Then, dramatically, the rain had arrived, and with play unable to resume, Laane were left just 29 runs short of victory with nine wickets in hand.
Cushing was the pick of the bowlers, taking 1/6 off four overs at the time the game was called off.
The result leaves Laane at the top of the one-day ladder for the time being as the only unbeaten team.
