Due to limited local government CEO positions across the state the shire’s mayor Grace La Vella expects significant interest in the position.

“This is an important appointment for the organisation and the community. The role of our CEO is a critical leadership role in our community, with the successful candidate to lead a large organisation working in and for the community,” she said.

The CEO Employment Matters Committee are leading the recruitment process. The committee consists of the council, coordinated by the mayor, and chaired by independent local government recruiter Christine Mileham from Sal Corp.

“We have set up a robust recruitment process within the obligations of the Local Government Act, with an experienced executive recruiter who specialises in our sector to undertake the recruitment process,” Cr La Vella said.

“We are thrilled to be closely involved with the process and very confident our community will benefit from this partnership with our chair, whose extensive network connections has already supported us immensely.”

It is understood that interim CEO Sally Jones was previously suggested for her current position by Ms Mileham, although she won’t be continuing in the full-time role.

“We extend our thanks to our interim CEO Sally Jones for her continued leadership which will remain in place until a new CEO is recruited,” Cr La Vella said.

Miss Jones became interim CEO following Lucy Roffey’s resignation last year, who first joined the shire in 2018 when council was under administration.

It is understood Miss Jones’ relatively short-term position was due to the imminent change in council at the time.

As a temporary role it now allows the current Council to choose a CEO based off their own beliefs.

The advertised position is full time with a five year fixed term contract.

Applications close 5 pm on April 16 for the position. The start date for the new CEO, however, is yet to be determined.

“We look forward to making an appointment and will keep the community updated,” Cr La Vella said.
