The Central Goldfields Shire Council has provided a progress report on its Annual Action Plan, with six new items listed as complete.
At last month’s council meeting, councillors received their quarterly report reviewing the 2023-24 Council Annual Action Plan adopted last October, which details initiatives and projects council want to achieve by the end of the financial year this month.
According to the quarter three report, 12 of the 72 items in the current action plan have been completed, 57 items currently remain in progress and three items have been moved to a later date.
Initiatives completed last quarter include the transition of council’s aged care services, finalising the Domestic Wastewater Management Plan and completion of the Talbot Futures Project.
Programs pushed to a later date include participation and partnerships with First Nations stakeholders and organisations, which will remain on hold until the adoption of the Reconciliation Action Plan, and a feasibility study into a Central Goldfields Youth Hub, which will commence next financial year.
Other items mentioned in the report include completion of the Heritage Overlay in Maryborough, planning for the Bristol Hill Urban Bike Park Project, design work of a potential splash park and electrical upgrades at the Maryborough Town Hall.
Speaking at the meeting, Central Goldfields Shire councillor Chris Meadows-Taylor said the action plan aims to create a roadmap for an improved local community.
“When planning for the future of the shire, we are seeking the investment of things that are critical, and advocating for services which [council] is not responsible for, but act as the voice for our community to government like telecommunications and rail services,” he said.
“The critical element of delivering those things that are in our council plan is we identified items of importance and add critical value to the shire.
“When you look at [the document], it is a total plan of planning, development and delivery, and I think that creates a healthy picture and is what this council should be about.”
Fellow councillor Anna De Villiers thanked council staff for their efforts on the report.
“[This document] goes through and ticks off the things that we have done and the things that are still going to happen,” she said.
“Thank you to all the staff and our CEO for your contributions to this and to the actions, it makes for a really interesting read.”
