Council has adopted its action plan for the coming year, with a raft of projects including preliminary works on a youth hub, an updated volunteer strategy and implementation of a flood recovery plan set to be underway over the next 12 months.
Central Goldfields Shire councillors moved unanimously to adopt the annual action plan 2023-24 at last week’s ordinary council meeting.
According to the report tabled to council, under the Local Govern-ment Act 2020 council is required to prepare a minimum four-year council plan outlining its strategic direction, objectives, strategies priorities and initiatives for the period.
The annual action plan, which councillors adopted last week, fits part of that process and records the projects council undertakes annually, as set out by the four-year plan.
Moving the motion to adopt the plan, councillor Liesbeth Long said the annual action plan was a way for council to be held to account, and for residents to stay up-to-date with local projects.
“Council is required to report annually on its progress against the council plan and to facilitate this reporting, council developed an annual action plan which is reported each quarter,” she said.
“I really enjoy these quarterly updates as it shows how much work has been done by council in a clear and concise format.”
As outlined in the report tabled to council, 73 actions have been completed and removed from the annual action plan to date — including further funding for Go Goldfields, completion of the final stage of the Carisbrook Flood Levee, opening of the redeveloped Central Goldfields Art Gallery, completion of a business case for the Maryborough Aerodrome and completion and opening of the new Maryborough Skate and Scooter Park.
There are a total 72 items to be addressed over the current financial year, according to the annual plan, including capital works projects.
A flood recovery action plan and public health and wellbeing plan will be implemented, according to the annual action plan, while work to create an integrated and central hub for early years development will commence.
Other projects highlighted in the annual plan include updating the existing volunteer strategy, design and plan a new urban bike park at Bristol Hill and conduct feasibility studies for a splash park and youth hub.
“It’s exciting to read this annual action plan for the coming year, because it shows what’s in the works for the next 12 months from a strategic perspective and I look forward to following its progress over the next 12 months,” Cr Long said.
